Almost There!

Posted by Ann on February 19, 2011

Well, unfortunately my birthday wish didn’t come fully true. I was supposed to be ordering our new computer today or next week so I could get a start on my EBay selling.  Due to a huge unforeseen bill it’s going to have to wait until about April or so. But until then I’m soaking, recording and getting dealer mixtures together so I’ll be ready for when it all happens.

If there’s any EBay sellers out there reading this then check my sellername out at: bigskystampsMT. I’m very open to buying up your extra stock that you’ve had trouble reselling or slipping in to dealer mixes. We would probably work something out.

Visiting the Dunes

Posted by Ann on February 14, 2011

Wasting time here at the library found me searching around some collecting blogs. I stumbled on this article over at the stamp collecting blog. The author made a really good point and it got me to wondering: what IS it with us here in America generally looking at the Dune issues with such disdain? Yes, they’re bright and not very well done……ok, not done well at all in general. But what ever happened to the fun of collecting? Personally, I have no problems putting a bright gold-foil hawk in garish colors on my album page adjacent to the page with…well, let’s say a handsome classical Kiwi issue. I think doing such makes it interesting as far as a worldwide collection goes.

So what is it about the poor unloved trucials that make them such outcasts? And why can’t we seem to find many other admirers of these never-talked-about bastard children of philately?

Always with the bad news

Posted by Ann on February 14, 2011

So there was a mix up with paying a bill online wherein it charged twice. So being charged twice left my account without the funds to pay Kenmore for my order when it finally was processed. Not a huge deal as I’ll just reorder in a few days and all. BUT…..they still sent me a small express envelope of stamps I had ordered just after that big order, and they threw in the introductory stamp approvals I requested. The problem? Somewhere along the way, and probably no help from the mailman who shoved and bent the mailer in to our tiny post box, the envelope was horribly damaged and most of the stamps were missing.

I called Kenmore and told them what happened and we’re going to sort it out. The odd thing is they never said the big order didn’t go through, just that my orders have been shipped and an email with the tracking number. What gives? I sure hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I have enough bad luck as it is.

And so it begins…

Posted by Ann on February 12, 2011

It’s finally here…sort of. I ordered from Kenmore a few days ago the new supplies to help me get my collection ( hoard really ) in to an album and organized. Plus, Kurt’s recently gotten the philatelic itch when he finally took the time to check out my Scott’s and saw the Russian and military stamps out there. I was so impatient, as usual, that I was addicted to checking the tracking number every few hours for the last week to see where and when the package will get here. As we speak, it’s in the mail truck heading to our home. However, since we’re in an apartment and have a tiny little mail slot we’re probably going to be getting a package pick up slip and we’ll have to wait until tomorrow. But that’s perfectly fine with me considering how many years I’ve waited for a chance to really dig in and dig out my collection.

Of course, I’m especially excited to see Kurt getting in to the hobby. How many couples really can say they have something in comment that they’re both so passionate about? Granted, we both have video games and movies that we both enjoy. But nothing so…..cerebral and satisfying as this.

So tomorrow begins both of our first days of honest and concentrated philatelic collecting and research rather than shoebox stuffing. Neither of us can wait!
